NASA ARtemis Space Tech Academy

Courtesy of NASA National Space Grant Member, Illinois Space Grant Consortium, Illinois Space Tech Academy is an open-source space technology resource supported by NASA. The courses in this open resource aim to increase the foundational knowledge base of undergraduate students and anyone interested in NASA Artemis-related science and technology.

The course includes: Four modules for a more in-depth look at the NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) thrusts of GO, LAND, LIVE, and EXPLORE.

National Science Foundation GRant

Computer and Information Science and Engineering: Future Computer Research

The NSF Future Computing Research (Future CoRe) program supports foundational and interdisciplinary research across computing, communications, and information science and engineering. Funding spans areas including algorithms, cybersecurity, emerging technologies, human-centered computing, networking, artificial intelligence, and software and hardware systems. Awards support projects of varying scope for up to four years, with funding of up to $1 million per project.

2024 LiftOff Summer Institute: Growing on Earth and Beyond

The 2024 LiftOff Summer Institute is a weeklong training event at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston sponsored by the agency’s Texas Space Grant Consortium. This year’s theme is "Growing on Earth and Beyond." Attendees will explore the vital role plants will play in survival during long-duration missions and ways NASA is innovating plant growth and adaptation. Participants will attend presentations by NASA scientists and engineers, tour NASA facilities, and receive hands-on, inquiry-based classroom activities aligned to education standards. Applicants must be U.S. citizens currently employed as classroom teachers of grades 5-12, or currently enrolled in a pre-service teacher program.

NASA Comprehensive Learning Unit: Urban Surface Temperatures and the Urban Heat Island Effects

This unit was created as a part of the NASA GISS Climate Change Research Initiative (CCRI), a year-long STEM engagement opportunity for NYC metropolitan area educators and graduate students to work directly with NASA scientists and lead research teams in a NASA research project.

Throughout this unit, students learn how climate is changing in urban settings and produce mitigation solutions for city environmental concerns. Students explore climate simulation models and global temperature profiles; learn about remote sensing and investigate instruments on climate satellites; analyze remote sensing imagery and understand the urban heat island effect; collect land surface temperature and create a physical model that promotes the concept of the urban heat island and mitigation factors to include human action towards climate in urban settings.

Space Exploration Educator Conference

The Space Center Houston has completely redesigned Space Exploration Educators Conference (SEEC). Attend sessions hosted by scientists, engineers and astronauts at the forefront of exploration. Receive ready-to-implement classroom ideas and experience minds-on, hands-on fun.

This immersive and flexible experience is being offered in three unique ways:

  • In-Person

  • Virtual

  • Hybrid

SEEC is for all K-12 educators and the activities presented may be used for science, language arts, mathematics, history and more.

Attendees will have access to a library of additional resources to refer back to after the conclusion of the conference.
