Why should I become an affiliate?
Access to comprehensive affiliate network across New York State providing the opportunity to collaborate on joint projects and funding opportunities.
Approximately once every four years, the consortium renews its grant from NASA through a proposal process. At that time, all NYSG affiliates can respond to a request for proposals for annual base funding within the upcoming multi-year award.
Expectations of All NYSG Affiliates
• Identify an individual who will serve as the affiliate director. The affiliate director typically:
Attends annual consortium meetings.
Assists in the preparation of the Consortium’s Annual Report and other reporting as required by NASA.
Serves as the programmatic point of contact with NYSG to our education and workforce-development missions.
Ensure that all individuals receiving a NASA Internship, Fellowship or Space Grant Scholarship are U.S. citizens.
What are the Expectations of Funded NYSG Affiliates?
• Offer STEM programming that aligns with NYSG and NASA priorities.
• Pay annual membership fee in proportion to the amount of NYSG funds provided to that institution.
• Provide funding match when appropriate and document that match, per NASA requirements. Match can be ‘in kind’ contribution of time or other non-financial resources.
What steps do I need to take?
A college, university, K-12 CSD, informal education entity, or industry partner that desires affiliation with NYSG submits a letter requesting affiliation to the Associate Director/Director via nyspacegrant@cornell.edu
The letter includes a rationale for acceptance of the applicant as a NYSG affiliate.
The NYSG Associate Director/Director will present the request to the consortium, and the consortium will vote on the acceptance of the new academic affiliate member. A 66% affirmative vote is required to accept a new affiliate.
The Associate Director/Director/Program Coordinator will mentor new affiliates to ensure that all grant requirements are met.
New affiliate voting occurs twice a year.

NASA New York Space Grant Faculty Grants recognize and support full-time faculty members at our affiliate institutions addressing research related to NASA’s strategic goals.

NYSG Opportunity Grants
NYSG opportunity grants are state-wide competitive awards to support New York primary, secondary, and post-secondary educators and higher education students working on NASA-related projects in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Each applicant can request up to $2,000 in funding, available on a recurring basis during the fiscal year.
National Science Foundation GRant
The NSF Future Computing Research (Future CoRe) program supports foundational and interdisciplinary research across computing, communications, and information science and engineering. Funding spans areas including algorithms, cybersecurity, emerging technologies, human-centered computing, networking, artificial intelligence, and software and hardware systems. Awards support projects of varying scope for up to four years, with funding of up to $1 million per project.
